Studentgarden
Everyone who desires for a bit of gardening just fits perfectly to the garden located in the Steinstraße. The garden parcels are assigned and distributed to interested people each year. For many things is already taken care of, whether a compost place, a small greenhouse or even a tool shed. It is easy to get into a conversation with other students and gardeners and one will often get valuable tips from each other. In the evening people use the cozy fire place to gather, sing and eat together. UnvergEssbar: Harvest Oasis
Can you imagine a place where you can pick the berries from the bush, radisch from the soil and fresh mint all around town? A place where nature is calling you to consume fresh vegetables and fruits, all available around the corner? It might sound like a fairytale, but in Witzenhausen this idyllic image became reality. Unvergessbar, which could be translated as Unforgedible is a project organized by Transition Town Witzenhausen. The project aims at planting healthy fruits, vegetables and berries all over town and is accessible for everybody. Transition town is of the opinion that everybody, despite of your income has the right to have access to healthy foods. In addition the environmental pressure caused by long transportation distances and unsustainable cultivating practices need to be reduced. Why would you get your cucumbers all the way from Spain, if they can also grow in your own town?

Schöpfkelle
Did you know that actually a lot of food we buy can be grown locally? Yet we still tend to buy the foods that have to travel a long distance before arriving the final destination. Wouldn't it be nice to get to know the farmers within your region, so you could discuss the variety of foods grown, cultivation methods and even the price of products? Following on from the idea of food sovereignty, the Food Coop, came up with the idea to form a “Schöpfkelle”, translated as a Scoop. The Scoop wants to provide the consumer with high quality, organic and regional foods, and has the aim to create long term relationships between the producer and the consumer.
By buying your food locally, you can support the farmers in your region and give them the possibility to enlarge their production, so that everyone can have access to these products. Also as a member you can be active in producing food by for example selling products like marmalade, dried tomatoes or pesto.. So if you would like to avoid buying food wrapped in unnecessary packaging material, if you want to support the local farmers or offer your own regional products, and if you would like to help to increase the food sovereignty of Witzenhausen, then come and join the Scoop!

VoKü
Folks, open kitchen (vegan) each Thursday in front on the international Student Club (Steinstraße 19) in Witzenhausen! Come by and cook with us from 4 p.m. on or just eat with us from 7 p.m. on.
Who, what and why VoKü?
Because we want good food for everyone without a return. And we want that not at sometime, but here and now! People can gather here and cook together. In solidarity means that everybody can participate, donate and help with what they want and can. For some years already, there were always people who got involved and brought some delicious food on the table for all.
Saatgutprojekt (Campaign for Seed-Sovereignity)
What would happen if the seeds we use to cultivate our food with would be of low quality or genetically modified? The quality and variety of seeds is of great importance when it comes to cultivation, the environment and human health. To keep the health and the quality of the seeds high, farmers used to harvest the seeds themselves and exchanged them among each other. Unfortunately, with the upcoming industrial agriculture the variety of seeds is declining and ‘seed monopolies’ emerge’.
To fight this trend, more and more seed exchange events occur all over Europe, also in Witzenhausen. From farmer to hobby gardener, everybody is welcome exchange seeds and to learn more about seed biodiversity and its importance. In addition other political food related topics are being discussed. Keep an eye on the agenda of transition town to attend the next seed exchange event. http://www.ttwitzenhausen.de/projekte/saatgutprojekt.html

The “Tafel” tries to balance this grievance by collecting “surplus” food, which still is in impeccable quality and pass this food on to those who are in need. Many volunteers, donors and sponsors make it possible. Come along with us! Opening hours are Mondays (for families) and Thursdays (for singles) respectively from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Click here to see more

Worldshop
In addition to „fair trade“ and „organic“ food such as coffee, tea, spices and chocolate the worldshop offers leather goods, crafts and musical instruments, jewelry and stationery. However it is perhaps less well known that the Worldshop (or its working group) is also much active in the fields of public relations and campaign work. Whether the fair week or giving an “Introduction to Fair Trade” for students, classes or scouts.. – in the foreground is always the goal of international understanding or equitable social relations. You feel attracted by the idea of the worldshop and want to get involved? Or you just like the delicious chocolate there? Feel free to come by or drop an email (weltladen-witzenhausen[at]online.de or siekmann-hue[at]gmx.de). The website (http://www.weltladen.de/witzenhausen) is currently under construction.
