How can a community move towards sustainability without having the right knowledge and skills to do so? Even though one would like to buy in a sustainable way, cook a sustainable meal or one is interested in cultivating in a sustainable way… without the right knowledge and the right skills it becomes a hard task.

And all of that starts with a basic understanding where our food actually comes from. Where does my chocolate come from? And how is cocoa actually grown? And why are people coming up with the argument of “not sustainable”? And what can I do then?

There is not only the importance of understanding an issue but also the right solutions have to be shown. Everyone knows, that our meat-consumption is far beyond from what is healthy for us, not to mention environmental or animal welfare aspects. Certainly, this knowledge will not turn us all into vegetarian - but in order to at least reduce our meat-overconsumption behavior, we will need knowledge and skills in how to cook a delicious, vegetarian meal. That is why we want to encourage these projects which are educating people through informing the public about different issues of sustainability. Aiming on improving food education in a community is an essential base to secure that a vital change can happen here in Witzenhausen!
