Sustainable Food City Witzenhausen

 

In the United Kingdom a new successful phenomena arises: Sustainable food cities (SFC). SFC have been created to deal with today’s social, economic and environmental challenges, by putting focus on the importance of food to solve these problems. We as students got inspired by this idea and now try to transform Witzenhausen in Germany's first sustainable food city. Curious in how we do this?, then continue reading….

When living in Witzenhausen, one will notice that this town is far ahead of many other towns, in implementing general sustainability projects as well as food related ones. The city has a lot of knowledge surrounding this topic due to the localization of the Bachelor of Organic Agriculture; Germanies one and only faculty educating this special field of Agriculture. In addition Master modules surrouding food and sustainability related topics are located in Witzenhausen and students all over the world come to learn new practices in how to improve sustainability. We as a group of students appreciate these developments a lot and we want them to evolve even more.
